William J. Grote
Author, Publisher, Family Member

William J. Grote is the author of the book Helping Your Aging Parent -- A Step-by-Step Guide, and the owner of Boomer Books, both which originated from his own unprepared experience as a caregiver for his 80-year-old mother
. As his mother started exhibiting signs of dementia, Grote fumbled through the healthcare, housing, legal, nursing home, and hospice systems and found a hidden complacency towards older people. Grote quickly found techniques that could get positive results when professionals failed to deliver. Grote realized that he may be able to chronicle his mis-adventures and provide others with a clearer path in caregiving aging parents, and avoid most of the mistakes he made. His Website at www.boomer-books.com provides information, free forms and resources for helping an aging parent.
Grotes' background is in book marketing and production, where he has facilitated focus groups and created customer-based marketing surveys to identify customer needs and developed or sourced products to fit those needs for over 30 years. He also runs a small advertising agency. He has served in a variety of programs from teaching art to blind children, to publishing a magazine of poems and short stories from mentally ill patients.
William J. Grote has a B.A. degree in Social Work from San Francisco State University in San Francisco.
